Events and Marketing Assistant.

Bright Humans is growing, and we are looking for someone at the start of their career who wants real experience, not just a job title.

You will work across Something Digital and Something Fest, Queensland’s leading platforms for digital innovation and emerging ideas, alongside a significant focus on Brisbane Portrait Prize, one of Australia’s most respected portrait awards.

This is not a sit quietly and update spreadsheets or create social posts role. It is an opportunity to roll up your sleeves inside a small, ambitious team and contribute to projects that shape conversations across technology, creativity and culture.

If you want to learn fast, take ownership early, and see how events and marketing actually work behind the scenes, keep reading.

Scope
: 2 days per week, commencing Late March/Early April.

About Bright Humans

We create experiences that put people first – helping to build skills, spark creativity, and strengthen the communities we’re part of.

We don’t fit in a neat box or industry. Our team brings together project managers, marketers, curators, event producers, artists, hosts, geeks, and collaborators. What unites us is a love of turning big ideas into real-world projects and events that bring people together.

Our work spans digital innovation, emerging industries and contemporary culture. We design and deliver platforms that create connection, capability and conversation.

Our core projects include

  • Something Digital and Something Fest, Queensland’s flagship digital innovation and technology festival;
  • Brisbane Portrait Prize, a nationally recognised portrait award celebrating contemporary artists; and
  • HerTechPath, a national series of one-day events designed to inspire and equip girls and young women to explore pathways into STEM careers.

We are a small, experienced team that works at pace and holds a high bar for quality. We value ownership, initiative and humans who are willing to step in and make things happen.

About the Role

This is a hands-on role working across events and marketing, with a strong focus on Something Digital, Something Fest and Brisbane Portrait Prize.

Brisbane Portrait Prize will be a major focus of this role. You will work across marketing coordination and event delivery, from lead-up through to exhibition and associated events.

You will also play a key role in the planning and delivery of Something Digital and Something Fest across marketing and event logistics.

You will be involved in whatever needs to get done, from creating social resources and building web pages to packing boxes, helping with runsheets and moderator packs, or troubleshooting with the team five minutes before doors open.

You will gain hands-on experience across event logistics, marketing execution, digital tools and the realities of running lean, ambitious projects.

Some weeks will be steady and some will be intense, particularly during major event periods where additional hours may be required.

About You

This role is ideal for someone early in their career, or still studying, who wants to build real capability quickly.

You might be studying marketing, communications, events, creative industries, business or a related field. What matters more is how you operate.

As a human you are:

  • Calm under pressure and able to make decisions
  • Adaptable and comfortable shifting gears quickly

  • Able to connect the dots and see how tasks fit into the big picture
  • A clear and confident communicator
  • Quick to pick up new tech and digital platforms
  • Resourceful and able to make things work, even when conditions are not perfect
  • Emotionally intelligent and able to read the room
  • Comfortable with direct feedback and open communication
  • Motivated by high standards
  • Energised by working with others

What you’ll gain:

This is a rare opportunity to see how a creative events and innovation business actually runs.

  • Learn directly from founders and experienced team members
